I preordered the core rulebook gift set in February and it looks like that just wasn’t soon enough. Amazon sold out entirely and is unable to fulfill orders placed as early as 4 months before release.
It'll be interesting to see how future sales shake out in comparison, but so far, things look very positive for the books. Considering how many leaped into 4e sight-unseen, I'm curious to see what WotC does to build on that momentum.
