Check out these amazing monasteries, perched high atop natural pillars, in Greece. Surely, the secrets of the World Before might still be safe in one of these places?
If you ever fancy a few days away from it all, some of the monestaries now hire out guest rooms. It's a fantastic way to get some peace and quiet to do the things you love to do: writing, research, painting. Sheer escapist Bliss.
One of the "tentpole" dungeons for my campaign is based on this very locale (Meteora. I imagined that much of the rock below was hollowed out overtime.
I've driven around the Meteora mountains, and they are indeed incredibly beautiful. There's so much more to the experience though - the scorching Mediterranean sun; the pervading smell of wild thyme. It's the sublime moments like that that I try to think of when inventing fantastical places. Truly inspirational.

Neat! Is that something you've done yourself?
That looks like the monastery atop Meteora Mountain, which featured prominently in the Bond film "For Your Eyes Only".

It does inspire the imagination.
